The Scarlett 18i8 is a USB audio interface with four mic/line inputs, two of which switch to instrument level, and four fixed-gain line inputs. Its converters work at up to 24-bit/192kHz, and the mic preamps include an Air mode that adds high-end detail to vocals and other sources.
Outputs include four balanced line/monitor outs with anti-thump protection and speaker switching, plus two independent headphone outputs. An ADAT input allows eight more channels to be added from an external mic preamp such as the Scarlett OctoPre or OctoPre Dynamic, which is enough to record a full drum kit.
Focusrite Control software handles routing, cue mixes, loopback and monitor mixes on Mac or PC, and the Focusrite Control iOS app can remotely control the interface from an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. A software bundle is included, covering Pro Tools | First, Ableton Live Lite, Softube plug-ins, the Focusrite Red Plug-in Suite and a three-month Splice Sounds subscription. The unit has a three-year warranty.
