StageBug SB-4

The StageBug SB-4 is an active DI designed around piezo transducers. Its input impedance is 5 megohms, which tames the sharp peaks and harsh top end typical of piezo pickups and widens the frequency response. The active circuit balances the signal so that cable runs of up to 100 meters are possible without loss, with low distortion and linear response across the audio range.

For stage use it includes a high-pass filter that trims excess low end and reduces body resonance and feedback, plus a 180° polarity reverse switch that can help with acoustic hot spots by changing the phase relationship between the PA and the room. No separate preamp is needed between the pickup and the PA.

The unit sends a standard XLR output to the PA and an aux output for a stage amplifier. It runs from 48V phantom power, so no batteries are needed. The compact housing is small enough to be carried inside an instrument case, which is useful for travelling with an upright bass or similar instruments.
