The FP-4 is a portable digital piano built around an 88-key multi-sampled piano sound engine and the PHA alpha II keyboard, which offers adjustable touch sensitivity. It shares its piano sound and styling with the larger FP-7. Polyphony is 128 voices, so long sustained passages and dense playing are reproduced without notes dropping out.
The instrument holds 333 tones plus 9 drum sets and is compatible with GM2, GS and XG lite. Effects include reverb, 62 digital effect types, three sound control types and a 4-band equalizer. The Session Partner function provides 80 rhythm patterns with two variations each, with chord progressions that run automatically or can be entered from the keyboard. A 3-track recorder, 65 internal songs and 24 x 25 registration sets are also included.
Built-in speakers (7 W x 2) are supplemented by stereo line outputs, line inputs, two headphone jacks, USB MIDI and MIDI In/Out. Three pedal jacks are provided, and a DP-8 damper pedal with half-damper support is supplied. A dedicated KSC-44 stand is available.
