The MX184 is a miniature lavalier condenser microphone with a supercardioid pickup pattern, aimed at spoken-word use: presenting, speeches, lectures and worship spaces. It is a wired design and ships with an in-line preamplifier and a 1.2 m cable ending in a TA4F connector.
It belongs to the Microflex family, in which the capsule is a screw-on cartridge. The cartridge can be exchanged for a cardioid, supercardioid or omnidirectional one (cartridges are sold separately). The output is balanced and transformerless, which helps keep noise down over long cable runs. The tie clip rotates in 90 degree steps for placement, and a snap-fit foam windscreen is supplied to control breath noise. A dual tie clip is also included, so two microphones can be mounted together for dual miking.
For wireless use, the same microphone is offered as the WL184, which has no preamplifier and plugs into Shure wireless bodypacks.
