The 013 Ambisonic is a single-microphone system for capturing a full spherical sound field. It uses four phase-coherent condenser capsules, each with its own output and its own transformer, so a session records four independent channels that can later be turned into stereo, surround, Atmos or headphone mixes.
The capsules are the maker's own hand-machined 013-series design with gold-sputtered membranes, larger than those used in many ambisonic mics. A transcoder plugin matched to the capsule array converts the four channels to ambisonic B-format and allows real-time monitoring with no latency. A decoder plugin offers controls such as rotation and dominance for reshaping the sound field after recording. The plugins were developed with Audio Brewers and run in any DAW that accepts VST or AU plugins, including Pro Tools, Logic, Reaper and Cubase.
The mic is powered by 48 V phantom power and connects through a custom 4-channel XLR cable to a four-channel preamp or interface with four matching mic inputs. A hardmount, a shockmount and an extension cable come in a wooden box.
