The Zoom F8 is an 8-input, 10-track field recorder and mixer in an aluminum chassis, with timecode I/O and low-noise preamps. It is aimed at filmmakers and sound designers who need location audio recording with sync to video.

The F8 records up to 10 tracks (eight inputs plus a stereo mix) to dual SD card slots as BWF-compliant WAV with BWF and iXML metadata, or as MP3. WAV recording supports sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz at 16 or 24 bit; at 192 kHz the maximum is 8 tracks. Each of the eight combo XLR/TRS inputs has a gain knob, six-segment level meter, PFL/solo switch and phantom power, plus a high-pass filter, phase invert, limiter, Mid-Side decoder and input delay.
Timecode runs through BNC connectors in drop-frame and non-drop formats, with jam sync and an accuracy of 0.2 ppm. Outputs include two balanced TA3 main outs, a mini-jack sub out and a 1/4" headphone output. A Zoom microphone capsule input, built-in slate mic with tone, and a 2.4" colour LCD are also included.
The recorder can be powered by eight AA batteries, an external 9-16 V DC source through a Hirose connector, or a 12 V AC adapter. It works as an 8-in/4-out USB audio interface at up to 96 kHz, and a free iOS app provides wireless remote control, file renaming and metadata entry.
