Bastl Instruments Knit Rider

Knit Rider sequences six voices, each with its own output that can be set to trigger or gate. A pattern is built from 4 bars of 16 steps, and every step is divided into 4 sub-steps, giving 256 steps per pattern. Sixty-four patterns are available. Bar buttons move between bars, and holding a step turns the bar buttons into a sub-step editor.

Patterns can be entered by tapping the voice buttons in real time, with adjustable quantisation. Each voice can have its own number of active steps, or all voices can share one length, and single steps can be deactivated mid-sequence. Other functions include per-voice mute, a jump function that repeats a chosen step across all voices, copy and paste for voice, bar or pattern, several clear options, and an undo that returns to the last save. An FN button opens extra functions. The v1.5 firmware reworked the timing core, added swing in master and slave modes, a toggle mode for the PTRN/MUTE button, and fixed or random trigger output values that also affect gate time.

The module can act as tempo master or slave, with a selectable clock input ratio. Master tempo is set by tap or in 2 bpm steps. Everything is stored on a microSD card reachable from the back. A reset jack and clock out are available through the separate 2HP Knit Rider Expander.
