The HD12 converts digital audio from a computer or a source with a digital output into analog signal. Its USB-B input handles all common sample rates up to 24 bit / 192 kHz and plays native DSD64 files without conversion to PCM (PC only). The two optical inputs and the coaxial input are described as being of equal quality.
On the analog side it provides balanced XLR outputs, unbalanced RCA outputs and a headphone output. A built-in volume attenuator with remote control lets it feed active loudspeakers or a power amplifier directly, as well as a receiver, amplifier or subwoofer. The converter uses a 32 bit DAC and digital filter, a linear-phase analog filter, and a stated noise floor of -145 dB.
Power comes from an internal toroidal transformer with 20,000 μF capacitors. The unit measures 6 x 21 x 26 cm and weighs 3.5 kg. The HD12 now appears in the maker's discontinued range.
