The MKH 8070 is a long shotgun microphone designed to pick up sources that are far away while keeping a natural tonal balance. It uses an RF condenser transducer and a lobar pick-up pattern with strong directivity, and it is built so that sound arriving from off-axis is attenuated without coloration.
The design emphasises very low self-noise and low distortion, with a high output signal. The housing is metal with a non-reflective Nextel coating, and the RF circuit makes the microphone highly resistant to weather and humidity. Its sound is timbrally matched to the other microphones of the MKH 8000 series, so they can be mixed in one production.
The output is a transformerless, fully floating balanced XLR-3M and the microphone runs on 48 V phantom power. Combined with the MZD 8000 digital module it becomes a digital microphone. A microphone clip, foam windshield and threaded transport tube are supplied.
